THEMATIC WORKSpointA MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

A Midsummer Night's Dream from William Shakespeare is a joint project by the calligrapher, along with silk-screen print artist, Eveline Petersen-Gröger for the Manna Kunsthuis galley in Bruges. Belgium in 2009. Each artist contributed their own interpretation of the text. The characters and their complicated web of relationships formed for Birgit Naß the basis of an intensive interpretation of the play. Each resulting image relates to one particular character, the pictures also relating to each other as the characters do in the drama. Certain pictures are to be seen as a pair, just as the characters themselves are a pair, or are contrasts within the plot. Parallel to Puck's dance-like, care- free lightness which evades Shakespeare's comedy, so a silver thread is drawn through all the works in the series. The strength of this body of works lies in their connection to one another and as a whole.Interpretation of speech and text have a deeper significance than compostion alone. The resulting collages, images and objects express enormous lightness, almost weightlessness.
