THEMATIC WORKS Projects and bodies of work often evolve from a creative process whose direction is initially unknown. This series arose from a seminar which I took part in. The term,' life gap' was used to invite questions and trains of thought about personal and general development.(open up relections on our autobiography/lives?) This took me to points in life which, together with the 'gaps' consolidated to life lines. The book binding process involving drilling and punching holes at marked positions on the covers or pages, holds special parallels to life gaps. Likewise, the concept of life lines is reflected in the extremely wide format of the books, and the lined pages along which the calligraphered questions and trains of thought are drawn. The books form sets, each with its own slide case, which symbolizes a life time made up of independent moments, but essential parts of the life time as a whole. The books and book-objects form the basis for further works and objects in a variety of materials. The life lines series offers a sensual experience of the materials, whilst allowing the viewer space for their own thoughts and interpretation.
