THEMATIC WORKSpointTHE BEATING OF A WING

Feathered flight and the beating of a wing (Federflug und Flügelschlag), 2008, is the title of my first real body of work, ultimately reduced to the beating of a wing. Feathered flight relates to the calligrapher's nib brushing lightly across the surface of the paper. The tool being a quill, or feather, brings with it such connotations as flight, lightness, and freedom of movement reflected in the beating of a wing. An important part of the work process was collecting theme-based objects, words, and thoughts. The process of working thematically has had a very significant influence on all my successive projects. proving to be a most productive method. A body of work is not the end result of a series of discarded(invisible) studies, but rather the continual documentation or expression of an evolving process.
